Week 47 Of The 50 Stitches Crochet Along. The Interlocking Block Stitch

The stitch creates a staggered check pattern which creates a beautiful effect for an endless choice of projects.

You can find the links for all the squares in the crochet along here. The free pattern is below, but if you’d like the ad free printable version, it is available either as part of my Lifetime Pattern Pass, or you can purchase it on its own for £5 from Ravelry

This pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation is below.

For this square you will need a 3.5mm hook

Start by making a foundation chain of 32

Row 1. In 4th chain from hook make a dc (the turning chain counts as your first stitch) dc in the next stitch. *Chain 3 and skip the next 3 stitches then dc in the next 3 stitches*

The interlocking Block Row 1

Repeat between *and* when you get to the last 3 stitches, chain 2 and pull up a loop in the last stitch and change colour then chain 1

Interlocking Block Change Colour

Turn

Row 2. In the same stitch as the colour change, make the alternate turning chain. In the 2 skipped chains in the foundation chain, make a dc. *Chain 3. Make a dc in each of the next skipped foundation chains*

Interlocking Block, pull up loop to the height of the other stitches

repeat between *and* when you get to the last 3 stitches, chain 2 and pull up a loop in the last stitch and change colour and chain 1.

Row 3. In the same stitch as the colour change, make the alternate turning chain. In the 2 skipped chains 2 rows below, make a dc. *Chain 3. Make a dc in each of the next skipped stitches 2 rows below*

Interlocking Block make stitches in skipped ones in the row below

repeat between *and* when you get to the last 3 stitches, chain 2 and pull up a loop in the last stitch and change colour and chain 1.

Rows 4 – 20. Repeat row 3

Turn

Row 21. Chain 1 and sc in the same stitch as the colour change. Sc every stitch sc in both row 20 and row 19. In the row 19 stitches, pull up a loop to the same height as your beginning stitch in row 21.

The Border

Sc in each stitch across the top and bottom

Make 1 sc in the sides of row 1 and 21. Make 2 sc in the sides of rows 2 and 20. Make 3 sc in the side of all other rows.

You should have 30 sc down each side, plus an extra stitch in each corner for the turn. This will make your stitch count as 32 stitches across each side and 124 stitches total (remember the extra stitch corner stitch is counted in the stitch count for both sides)

You have now finished your square and join and you can tie off and weave in the ends

The Interlocking Block Square

You can now add the interlocking border, joining this weeks square to last weeks as you join. You can see how to do this here

If you have any questions about the pattern or the CAL, then come on over to the Facebook group – 50 Stitches where you can show us your completed squares too.
