The FrankenScrap Crochet Along 2024

It’s finally here!!! I bring you the FrankenScrap Crochet Along 2024 Blanket

This has been a journey and a half for me to get finished and brought to you. I started designing this years Crochet along mid 2022, eventually scrapping the original design late on in the year as it just wasn’t doing it for me.

I was going through a bit of an upset at home so I needed something simpler for me to put together and keep track of. But I also wanted to bring you something YOU wanted.

Over the last year or so I’ve been receiving messages asking about the next CAL, and how similar it would be to the 50 Stitches CAL – my very 1st Crochet along. I got the message. You wanted a project that was done in pieces with each piece being a different stitch.

No problem!

So work on the new design that would become the FrankenScrap got started. I was also on a mission to bust through my humongous stash of yarn, so I decided to turn this into a scrap project and get my yarn hoard under control (or at least make a start – my stash really is that huge!).

There is zero thought to the colours used or brands in this CAL, it is a scrap project through and through. I simply grabbed the next ball of yarn out of my stash to make each piece. Making the FrankenScrap the ugliest blanket you ever did see.

That’s how the name came about. Just like Frankensteins Monster, my blanket is made up of different pieces from different yarns, all pieced together like a giant jigsaw puzzle and stitched up to look like an ugly unplanned piecemeal monster.

But I LOVE IT!

There’s something about scrap projects that just look amazing, and I hope you love it just as much as I do

How The FrankenScrap Crochet Along 2024 Will Work

The Crochet along will start on the 14th of January 2024. After that all the posts going out each week on a Friday at 7pm GMT. Unlike previous years there is no special group, simply because I now have so many groups I can’t keep track of them all. So the Frankenscrap will be held in my regular Facebook group here. Each week the link to the blog post will be posted into the group, which you can access for free.

If you want to be added to my email list so you get the links to the patterns and videos sent to your inbox each week, then you can sign up here, this will also add you to my regular newsletter list which will see you receive emails with upcoming pattern releases, behind the scenes info and any other news about Froggity Frog that you might find interesting.

If you want the ad free pdfs each week, you can purchase the CAL for a one off payment of just £5 on Ravelry. Each week the next part of the FrankenScrap will be added to your Ravelry library, and you will be sent an update email letting you know its there.

If you have my Lifetime Pattern Pass, then you will also receive an update each week.

What Do You Need For The 2024 CAL?

This is a scrap project, so I have no colour plan, I just pulled out the next ball of yarn in my drawer. However you will need a total of 4500 meters (4921 yards) of DK / Light worsted yarn. Each piece will have the information of how much yarn it used with it on release each week. You can check out the layout below, but if you signup to the email alerts, you will receive a pdf that you can use to plan your colours

I’ve listed how much yarn is needed for each piece over on the CAL info page here. I haven’t listed which yarn I used, as some yarn that I used is now discontinued or the yarn label was missing. You can use yarnsub.com to see what else you can substitute it with.

When Do We Get Started?

The FrankenScrap 2024 crochet along starts on the 14th of January 2024. Its a Sunday, but I’ve chosen this date as it’s significant for me. After this each new piece will be released at 8pm UK time every Friday. The CAL will run until the 13th of December when the final piece will be released.

I run my crochet alongs over such a long time scale because I want them to be enjoyed by everyone. So that even those with busy lives, and family commitments can still join in, be part of the community and not feel like they are missing out. Your blanket will grow bit by bit over the course of a year, and you get to try out a new crochet stitch each week.

Is there anything else you need to know?

FrankenScrap CAL FAQs

Can I use Aran /  Worsted weight yarn instead? If you want to. Using DK / Light Worsted yarn the completed blanket sits on top of a double bed but does not hang over the sides. Using Aran / Worsted yarn your blanket should hang over the sides of the bed, but not be too oversized.

How Many Pieces Are There? There are 53 pieces in total plus the border. There will be a few weeks where we will be making 2 pieces as the CAL runs for 49 weeks

Is The FrankenScrap CAL Free? Yes, you can follow the whole FrankenScrap crochet along completely free. Each piece of the pattern will be published publicly on my blog for all to access anytime. However if you prefer to have the ad free pdfs, you can purchase them for just £5 on Ravelry – this is a one off fee and you will get an email with the latest pdf each week

What If I Need Some Help With The Patterns? If you need to ask any questions you can come into the Facebook group and post your questions. You will get the help of our community and I’ll be in there as well offering as much help as I can. There will be a weekly help thread as well and of course we all want to see pictures of your progress, I can’t wait to see how crazy your colour combos get.

Do I Need To Be In The Facebook Group To Take Part? I will be posting the links each week into the Facebook group, but you don’t have to be there to take part. You can also signup to the weekly email alerts here, which will also add you to my newsletter list. All the parts will be published on my blog, so you can bookmark the CAL page here and pop over every Friday at 8pm UK time for the next piece of the pattern

I was asked earlier today if I had any plans or adventures set for 2024. Now, I can emphatically say yes, I’ll be busy every weekend, lol.
I’ve always avoided projects with motifs because I couldn’t put them together to my liking.
Time for this old dog to learn some new tricks.
    Thanks bunches,
    Deborah

How adept at crochet do I have to be to participate? I’ve only been doing this for a few months but want to push myself a bit.

This is probably a CAL that I can actually keep up with. Like you, I have a humungeous yarn stash and so many balls of leftovers that it’s ridiculos. Some are too small to be used in other scrap projects but I can see that some will work with this one. Thank you so much
