I love exploring different crochet stitches – as many as I can find. If you’ve seen my previous crochet alongs then you know this already, my blankets are always stuffed full with dozens of different crochet stitches for you to create. My next CAL is no exception. Let me introduce you to the Wall Of Stitches Crochet Along.
The Wall Of Stitches is Froggity Frogs 2025 crochet along and this year I’ve gone back to predictable sized pieces in a regular layout. Last years FrankenScrap was a great quilt like scrap project, but it has been nice to get back to a more planned out regular layout.

The Wall Of Stitches is made up of 48 different pieces each made with a different crochet stitch. These pieces are each made separately and then joined together afterwards. There are 2 different sized pieces and they are placed in a staggered arrangement to look like a brick wall. Even the edges of each row are offset so that the blanket looks like a section of bricks has been removed from a section of wall.
I wanted to create something really eye catching, colourful and fun so I chose to use the brightest colours that Paintbox had to offer and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

When Will The Wall Of Stitches Crochet Along Start?
We get started on the 21st of March 2025. Every Friday at 8pm UK time the next part of the crochet along will be released. I will post in the Facebook group when each new part is available and you can also sign up to email alerts here. The crochet along will run for 25 weeks so will end on September 5th.
I run my crochet alongs over a long period of time so that everyone has a chance to keep up even around our busy lives. In fact as just 25 weeks, the Wall Of Stitches will be my shortest crochet along ever! This means that instead of the usual one piece per week, we’ll be making 2 pieces – 1 small one large each week of the CAL.
Is The CAL Free?
Yes it is. You can follow along for free on my blog and on my YouTube channel. But if you want the ad free version each week then you can make a one off payment of £5 to receive each new part of the pattern in your Ravelry library each week.

What Yarn Do I Need?
The Wall Of Stitches was designed with LoveCrafts Paintbox 100% Cotton Aran, but you can use any aran or worsted weight yarn in any fibre of your choice.
I chose Paintbox Cotton Aran because of the colour range it offers. I love cotton, it is my favourite fibre and the colours always look so saturated and bright. Paintbox Cotton Aran comes in 63 different colours and has a good value price point. It is lovely and soft, but is an unmercerised yarn so if you’re not used to using cotton you may find this yarn a bit splitty. In this case I would recommend switching to Paintbox Simply Aran, which is an acrylic yarn.
Paintbox is LoveCrafts own brand so is only available from their website. If this doesn’t suit you then some alternatives to the Paintbox brand include Caron Simply Soft, Red Heart Soft and StyleCraft Special Aran.
I used 9 different colours – 8 colours for the bricks and 1 for the background. In total you will need 3245 meters (3551 yards) of yarn with this being split into 1981 meters (2168 yards) for the bricks and 1264 meters (1383 yards) for the background and joining.
You don’t have to use as many colours as I did. The minimum number of colours I’d recommend is 2 – 1 colour for the bricks and 1 for the background.
The Colours I used in Paintbox Cotton Aran are:
- Pure Black (602) – 1264m / 1383yd = 15 balls
- Blood Orange (620) – 286m / 313yd = 4 balls
- Grass Green (630) – 255m / 279yd = 3 balls
- Marine Blue (634) – 242m / 265yd = 3 balls
- Kingfisher Blue (635) – 221m / 242yd = 3 balls
- Pillar Red (615) – 269m / 295yd = 4 balls
- Pansy Purple (648) – 233m / 255yd = 3 balls
- Buttercup Yellow (623) – 289m / 317yd = 4 balls
- Lime Green (629) – 242m / 265yd = 3 balls
If you want to see how much yarn is needed for each individual piece, you can find that on the CAL page here.
Is There A Community Space?
The crochet along will be hosted in my Facebook Group – Froggity Frogs Ribbit And Stitch. You can join the group here. As soon as the next part of the pattern is released a post will go up in the group. This is also where you can ask any questions you have and of course connect with others taking part too.
What Skill Level Is Needed?
Although there are a range of stitch difficulties in this design, the pattern is written to make it as easy as possible to follow them. Each stitch has a step by step guide with pictures and a video tutorial as well. If you need further help then come along to the Facebook group and ask – the community is a friendly place where you are sure to find an answer to your questions.
The biggest issue that will arise in this pattern is tension.
Tension becomes a problem in projects like this because of the different types of crochet stitches involved. It’s natural that you make some stitches more loosely or tightly than others. We tend to make smaller stitches like single crochet very tightly and larger stitches like double crochet more loosely. This means that the pieces with smaller stitches will have a shorter length and height than the pieces with larger stitches.
There are a few ways you can address this issue:
- Make a conscious effort to keep your tension even across stitches – loosening your tension when making single crochet stitches will help a lot.
- Go up a hook size when making the smaller stitches – this acts as if you were loosening your tension and then you don’t have to consciously loosen up when making the small stitches.
- Just go with it and see how things fit – there are enough pieces with a lot of give in this pattern to compensate for some smaller pieces. You will be surprised by how well things will still fit neatly together.
Are There Videos?
Absolutely! Each stitch has it’s own video which is available in both left and right handed version. The videos will be available to view as soon as the next part of the pattern is released and can be found in this YouTube playlist.
