The pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation is below in brackets along with the abbreviations we will be using
- Double crochet (treble crochet) = dc
- Single crochet (double crochet) = sc
The Pattern
You will need a 3.5 mm hook for this piece
Using Colour H, make a chain of 80
Row 1. In the 3rd chain from your hook make a sc (your turning chain counts as your first sc). Sc in each stitch across – 79 stitches
Row 2. Turn, chain 1, sc in the first stitch. Sc in each stitch across, change colour in your last stitch to Colour L – 79 stitches
Row 3. Turn, chain 1. Make the alternate turning chain in the first stitch. *chain 1, skip the next stitch, make a dc in the next stitch* repeat between *and* dc in the last stitch, changing to Colour H in the last 2 loops – 79 stitches
Rows 4 and 5. Repeat row 2, changing back to Colour L at the end of row 5
Row 6. Repeat row 3, changing to Colour H in the last stitch
Rows 7 and 8. Repeat row 2, changing to Colour L at the end of row 8
Row 9. Repeat row 3, changing back to Colour H at the end of the row
Rows 10 and 11. Repeat row 2
The Border
change to a 4mm hook for the slip stitch border
With colour E (your joining colour) join into any stitch on the outer edge with a slst.
Slst into every stitch down the long edge. You don’t need to add any extra stitches in the corners.
Down the short sides, make 1 slst into the side of each sc and 2 slst into the side of each dc
When you get back around to where you started, slst into the first stitch. Cut off and weave in your ends. You should have 79 slst on each long side, and 14 on each short side
