The pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation is below in brackets along with the abbreviations we will be using
- Single crochet (double crochet) = sc
- Double crochet (treble crochet) = dc
- Treble crochet (double treble) = tr
The Pattern
You will need a 4mm hook for this piece
With Colour G make a chain of 80
Row 1. In 3rd chain from hook make a sc (turning chain counts as a sc) sc in each chain across – 79 stitches
Row 2. Turn, chain 1. Sc in the first 6 stitches. *Ch2, skip 6 stitches then all in the same stitch make (tr, ch1 – 6 times, then make a final tr) then ch2, skip 6 stitches then sc in the next 5 stitches*
repeat between *and* and make a sc in each of the last 6 stitches – 4 shells
Row 3. Turn ch1, sc in the first 5 stitches. *Ch2, then in the chain 1 space make a puff stitch (yarn over and insert your hook into the space and pull up a loop. Do this 3 times until you have 7 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all loops, then chain 1).
Repeat in all chain 1 spaces in the shell. You will have 6 puffs. Ch2, skip the 1st sc, sc in next 3 stitches, skip the last sc* repeat between *and* sc in each of the last 6 stitches.
Row 4. Turn, ch1, sc in each stitch in the row.. In the ch2 space at the beginning and end of each shell make 2sc, make 1 sc in the chain 1 space between the puffs – 79 stitches
Row 5. Turn, ch1, sc in each stitch – 79 stitches
Row 6. Turn, make the treble alternate turning chain in the first stitch, tr in next 2 stitches. In the next stitch (tr, ch1) 4 times, all in the same stitch. Ch 1,
*skip 6 stitches, sc in next 5 stitches Ch2, skip 6 stitches then all in the same stitch make (tr, ch1 – 6 times, then make a final tr) then ch2*
repeat between *and* in last 4 stitches – (tr, ch1) 4 times, tr in last 3 stitches
Row 7. Turn, make the treble alternate turning chain in the first stitch. Make a tr in the next stitch. Make a Puff in each ch1 space.
*Ch2, sk the 1st sc, sc in next 3 stitches, sk the last sc. Ch2, puff stitch (3 yarn overs) in each ch1 space. You should have 6 puffs* repeat between *and* ch2, Make a puff in each chain space. Tr in last 2 stitches – 3 full shells, 2 half shells
Row 8. Turn, ch1, sc in each stitch. In the ch2 space at the beginning and end of each shell make 2sc – 79 stitches
Row 9. Turn, ch1, sc in each stitch – 79 stitches
The Border
With a 4mm hook, join with Colour E (your joining colour) and make a slst into the side of each sc row and 2 slst into the side of every dc row down short ends. Along the long side, make 1 slst in every sc.
You will have 14 slst across the short ends and 79 slst across each long side.
Weave in your ends, and join the piece to week 21
