The pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation is below in brackets along with the abbreviations we will be using
- Single crochet (double crochet) = sc
- Half double crochet (half treble crochet) = hdc
- Double crochet (treble crochet) = dc
The Pattern
You will need a 4mm hook for this piece
With Colour H make a chain of 15
Row 1. In the 3rd chain from your hook (turning chain counts as a sc) make a hdc. In the same stitch make a dc. *skip 2 stitches and make a sc, hdc, dc all in the same stitch* repeat between *and* until you have 3 stitches left. Skip 2 stitches and sc in the last stitch and change colours to Colour L
Row 2. Turn, ch1 and in the first stitch sc, hdc, dc. *skip 2 stitches and in the next stitch make sc, hdc, dc* repeat between *and* until you have 3 stitches left. Skip 2 stitches and sc in the last stitch and change colour to Colour P
Rows 3-53. Repeat row 2.
I’ve used 3 colours for this stitch, and carried each up the side. The carried threads will be hidden once we join the pieces.
Slip stitch round in black. 2 stitches in each (sc, hdc, dc) start and 1 stitch in the sc end. (80 stitches on each long side, 14 on short sides)
The Border
With a 4mm hook, join with Colour E (your joining colour) Down the long sides alternate each row with 1 slst, then 2 slst in the next row.
Along the short ends, make 1 slst in every stitch, adding an extra slst into the first chain.
You will have 14 slst across the short ends and 80 slst down each long side.
Weave in your ends, and join the piece to week 23
