Week 38 Of The Ray Of Hope Crochet Along

The pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation is below in brackets along with the abbreviations we will be using

  • Single crochet (double crochet) = sc
  • Half double crochet (half treble crochet) = hdc

The Pattern

You will need a 4mm hook for this piece.

With Colour M, make a chain of 80

Row 1. In 3rd chain from hook sc (turning Ch counts as a sc). *Ch3, skip 3 stitches, sc* repeat between * and* in the last stitch make a sc.

Row 1 of the half double fan stitch

Row 2. Turn, ch1. Alt turn chain in the 1st stitch, hdc in next stitch. In the same stitch make 7 hdc. *Sc in the sc in row 1. Ch1. In the same stitch as the sc, make 7 hdc*

repeat between *and* in the 2nd to last stitch sc and chain 1. Hdc in last stitch. The fans will overlap each each other.

Row 3. Turn, ch1 and sc in the 1st stitch and in the top of the sc in the previous row. *chain 3, skip 3 stitches and sc* repeat between *and* sc in the last 2 stitches. This row will sit behind your previous row, looking like it’s on the back of your piece.

Rows 4-11.  repeat rows 2 and 3

The Border

With a 4mm hook, join with Colour E (your joining colour) and make a slip stitch into each stitch across the top and bottom.

Down the sides make the following number of slst

Row 1 = 1 slst

Row 2 = 2 slst

Rows 3 – 5 = 1 slst

Row 6 = 2 slst

Rows 7 – 9 = 1 slst

Row 10 = 2 slst

Row 11 = 1 slst

You will have 14 slst across the short ends and 79 slst across each long side.

Weave in your ends, and join the piece to week 37
