This pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation is below.

UK Translation

Single crochet (sc) = double crochet

Half double crochet (hdc) = half treble crochet

Double crochet (dc) = treble crochet

The Pattern

For this square you will need a 4mm hook.

Start with a magic circle

Round 1. Chain 2 (doesn’t count as a stitch) into the magic circle *2dc, chain 1* 8 times then slip stitch into the 1st dc.

Round 2. Into a chain space make a standing dc (counts as first stitch) 

then make 2 dc in the same chain space and chain 1 *in the next chain space make 3dc and chain 1* repeat between *and* in each chain space. Slip stitch into the standing dc.

Round 3. In a chain space from round 2 make a standing dc (counts as a stitch). In the same chain space dc, chain 2, 2 dc. *In the next chain space make 2 dc, chain 2, 2 dc* repeat between *and* in each chain space. Slip stitch into the standing dc

Round 4. In a chain space from round 3 make a standing dc. In the same chain space make 6 dc. *in the next chain space make 7 dc* repeat between *and* in each chain space. Slip stitch into the standing dc

Round 5. In the top of any dc make a standing sc. Sc in each dc, but make a spike stitch between each fan into the space in row 3. The spike stitch is an extra stitch between the dc. So you should have 7 sc, then a slip stitch for each petal. Once you’ve completed all your stitches, slip stitch into the first sc.

Round 6. Into the top of any spike stitch make a standing hdc. *Sc in the next 4 stitches. Hdc in the next stitch, dc in the next 2 stitches. In the next stitch which should be a spike stitch, make (tr, chain 3, tr). Then dc in the next 2 stitches, hdc in the next stitch then sc in the next 4 stitches then hdc in the top of the spike stitch* repeat between *and* until you have made 4 sides then slip stitch into the standing hdc

Round 7. In the top of the hdc in the middle of any side make a standing dc. Dc in every stitch until you get to the chain 3. *In the chain 3 make (2 dc, 2 tr, chain 1, 2 tr, 2dc) then dc in each stitch along the side* 

Repeat between *and* until you get back to the standing dc. Slip stitch into it.

The Border

Use a 3.5mm hook for the border.

Start in any corner. In the corner space make 3 sc (this includes the extra sc for the turn) In the next 3 stitches make a sc. 2 sc in the next stitch, sc in the next 4 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch, sc in the next 7 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch, sc in the next 4 stitches, 2sc in the next stitch, sc in the next 3 stitches.

Repeat for each side.

You should have 30 sc down each side, plus an extra stitch in each corner for the turn. This will make your stitch count as 32 stitches across each side and 124 stitches total (remember the extra stitch corner stitch is counted in the stitch count for both sides)

You have now finished your square and join and you can tie off and weave in the ends
