The Raspberry crochet stitch is a really easy crochet stitch to make. It has a texture like the bumps on the raspberry, hence it’s name. In this stitch guide I will show you how to crochet the Raspberry stitch with all the pictures that you need along with a video guide that you can follow along with too.

The Raspberry stitch is an easy 3 row repeat that uses front post stitches to create that beautiful texture. When making front post stitches around a single crochet, you will be inserting your hook into the top loops of your stitch and coming through into the top loops of the next stitch, this is because a single crochet doesn’t really have a post. This can be confusing if you’re not used to working with this stitch.
The Raspberry stitch is an easy stitch to make but because it is only made with single crochet stitches it is slow to build height. The fabric that is made with this stitch is dense and hole free, so would suit any project where you want a nice warm stitch such as hats or snoods.

The yarn I used Paintbox 100% cotton aran. A beautiful non mercerised 100% cotton yarn that comes in a good variety of colours that are amazingly saturated with pigment for wonderfully vibrant colours that will make your crochet grab every ones attention.
I also used my trusty Clover Amour hooks which are perfect if you are looking for a good value ergonomic crochet hook that won’t cause your hand to ache if you are crocheting for long periods of time. I’ve tried many different crochet hooks over the years, but I always end up coming back to my trusty Clovers. They just sit so well in my hand and never let me down.

Abbreviations
- Ch = Chain
- St = Stitch
- Sc = Single Crochet
- Fpsc = Front Post Single Crochet
Start by making a foundation chain in multiples of 2 plus 1 (plus 1 for your turning chain)
Row 1. In the 3rd ch from your hook make a sc (your turning ch counts as the first st of the row). Make a sc in each st across
Row 2. Turn and ch1. Make a sc in the first st and then make a *fpsc in the next st, sc in the next st* repeat between *and*.
Row 3. Turn and ch1. Make a sc in both the first and second st of the row. *Make a fpsc in the next st and then make a sc*. Repeat between *and* making a sc in each of the last 2 st of the row.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have as many rows as you need.
How To Add A Border To The Raspberry Stitch
The Raspberry crochet stitch only has single crochet rows. So to make a border down the sides, you just need to make a single stitch into the side of each row.
I always recommend that you make a round of single crochet stitches around your piece first before adding any border pattern that you have planned, as doing this just helps to even your stitches out and make a nice solid round to add any further stitches into.
