Welcome to week 49 of the FrankenScrap crochet along, the ugliest and scrappiest crochet pattern that you ever did see!
Over the next 49 weeks, we are going to be making 53 different crochet stitches, each in a different piece of this patchwork blanket. The FrankenScrap was designed as a scrap project, so dive into your yarn stash and clear out those odds and ends that you’ve just not been sure what to do with.

The FrankenScrap is a completely free crochet along. Each week the next piece of the pattern will be published on my blog, but if you want the concise and add free pdf delivered to you each week that will remain in your Ravelry library, you can purchase that for just £5 here. This is a one off payment that covers the entirety of this CAL.
If you want to prep ahead, you can find out how much yarn you need for each week here as well as the layout and where each piece will fit.
Week 49 Of The FrankenScrap Crochet Along
Week 49 is our final week and we’re adding a border to the entirety of our blanket. For the border I chose to use the Hdc Herringbone stitch again as it has a different look to when it is made in rows like we did in week 47. You will need a total of 315 meters of DK / Light Worsted yarn. I used Sirdar Cotton Prints DK, a 100% mercerised cotton yarn that is wonderfully silky and glides over your hook. This yarn keeps it’s round shape when using it, it doesn’t flatten out so it’s great when used for stitches where you want that detail to be really clear. The prints range is a multicolour line of yarn that has stunning colours, but has unfortunately now been discontinued.
I also used a 4 mm hook – I recommend using Clover Amour hooks. A cost effective hook that is comfortable in your hands thanks to their ergonomic design, so doesn’t make your hands tired when crocheting for long periods of time. I love my Clover hooks and although I own several different hook brands, I inevitably end up going back and using my trusty Clovers.

Abbreviations
- Ch = Chain
- Sk = Skip
- St = Stitch
- Slst = Slip Stitch
- Sc = Single Crochet
- Hhs = Half Double Crochet Herringbone Stitch
Round 1 – Join your yarn into any st around the edge and chain 1. Alternatively you can make a standing sc in the first stitch. Make a sc into each stitch around the edge. When you reach the corners, make 3sc into the corner st.
When working down the sides:
- make 1 st into the side of a sc.
- 2 st into the side of a dc.
- 3 st into the side of a tr.
- If working into the side of a hdc, make 1 st into the side of the first row, then 2 st into the side of the 2nd row – you need 3 st for every 2 rows of hdc.
When you get back to the beginning of the round, slst into the first sc of the round.
Rounds 2-5. Ch2 (does not count as a st). In the next st make a hdc Herringbone stitch (hhs). Make a Hhs in each st around. When you reach the corners, make 3 hhs into the 2nd of the 3 corner stitches. When you reach the beginning of the round slst into the 1st hhs.
Now you can cut off and weave in your ends
