Once you’ve learnt the basic crochet stitches it’s time to explore some of the hundreds of other stitches out there. But where do you start when there is so much choice! How do you know which crochet stitches are easy and which ones are way too challenging at this point? Don’t worry, I’ve got you. Here I’ve put together a list of 7 Easy Crochet Stitches For Beginners that anyone can make.
What Makes An Easy Crochet Stitch?
Easy to crochet stitches tend to only use 1 type of stitch or they alternate between 2 stitches in a really short repeating pattern. Easy stitches may also use chains as well, but generally speaking easy crochet stitches for beginners only use 1 of the basic crochet stitches.
The basic crochet stitches are:
- Single Crochet
- Half Double Crochet
- Double Crochet
All of the 7 Easy Crochet Stitches For Beginners that I’ve listed below have that in common – except for number 4 and that is such an easy repeating pattern that you’ll have no trouble with it.

1. The Granny Stitch
The Granny stitch is the most well know crochet stitch in the world by a long way. I’m sure you’ve seen those blankets that are draped over the back of the sofa in your favourite TV shows and films. They’re usually made in colourful squares and they are always a variation of the same blanket.
Well, those are made with the Granny stitch. The Granny stitch can be made in small squares, continuous rounds of squares or even in rows. But all of them are made with the same basic pattern and can be very colourful depending on how many times you decide to change your yarn.
The Granny stitch is made up entirely of groups of Double crochet stitches with a chain in between each group. It is quick and easy to make with hundreds of patterns to choose from that use it.

2. The V Post Stitch
The V Post stitch is really easy stitch that is made up entirely of double crochet stitches with no chains involved at all. The stitch is made by working in between the stitches rather that into the top loops. This forces the stitches apart to make the V shape.
The V Post looks at its best when you change colour every row to really make those V’s stand out. You can see how to make the V Post stitch here.
The V Post stitch is popular for making clothing such as sweaters and cardigans. It is also often used for shawls as is it breathable but warm with an almost lacy look to it.

3. The Camel Stitch
The Camel stitch uses just Half Double Crochet stitches to create all that lovely texture on the front of fabric. These ridges are created by taking advantage of the extra loop that is created from making a half stitch. The Camel stitch can be made in either rows or in the round and looks different in both ways.
You can see how to make the Camel stitch for yourself in rows here.
The Camel stitch is often used for facecloths but is also popular for making hats where it is used in rounds.

4. The Seed Stitch
The Seed stitch is also known as the Lemon Peel stitch as it looks like the texture of lemon skin. This stitch uses 2 of the basic crochet stitches, but the entire pattern is created by switching between single and double crochet to create it’s beautiful texture.

The Seed stitch is a popular stitch to make face cloths with as it has a gentle texture to it.

5. The Moss Stitch
The Moss stitch is one of my favourite stitches. It is so easy to make and doesn’t even need stitch markers to keep track of the stitches at the end of the row. The Moss stitch uses only single crochet and chains and looks amazing whether you use a single colour or multiple colours.
See how you can crochet the Moss stitch here.
The Moss stitch is a very popular stitch for a large variety of projects including clothing, blankets, scarfs, shawls and so much more.

6. The Corner To Corner Stitch
The Corner To Corner (C2C) stitch is the most difficult stitch in this list, but it’s one of the most popular crochet stitches there is. It is used to make graphgan blankets that use changes in colours to create pictures.
The C2C stitch is actually called the Block stitch that’s made by starting in a corner then increasing the number of blocks in each row until you get to the widest point and ten you decrease until you get to the top corner.
You can see how to crochet the C2C stitch here

7. The Mixed Loop Stitch
The Mixed Loop stitch, much like the Camel stitch uses half double crochet and takes advantage of the 3rd loop to create it’s texture. But the 2 stitches look completely different.
The Mixed Loop has a much more subtle texture but it doesn’t run in stripes, instead it bobs up and down.
You can see how to crochet the Mixed Loop stitch here.
The Mixed Loop stitch is a great stitch to use for clothing and blankets, but is a stitch you don’t see used too often which is a great shame given how easy it is to make and how pretty it looks.

There you go, 7 easy crochet stitches for beginners. I’m sure you’ll agree that for stitches that are simple to make they all look very different and will give you a lot of variety to explore.
