The applique piece before attaching the star

The Star

Stick with your 3.5mm hook.

Round 1. Make a magic circle, then chain 2 (this doesn’t count as a stitch) *make 3 hdc in the loop then chain 1* repeat between *and* until you have 5 sets of repeats. Slst into the first hdc

Round 2. Turn your work over and slst into the chain 1 space immediately to the left.

Starting your star

*Chain 5, then in the 2nd chain from your hook make a sc. Hdc in the next chain, then dc, then htr. Slst into the next chain 1 space.*

The chain 1 space to work into

Repeat between *and* until you have 5 points and have slst into the beginning ch1 space.

Finishing your points

Round 3. *In the chain that you worked the htr, make a sc.

The space to start in

Sc into the bottom of each stitch. Into the top of the sc, make 3sc in the same stitch.

Working around the point

Sc in each of the next 3 stitches. Slst into the slst*

Placing your slst

repeat between *and* until all 5 points have been worked around and slst into the beginning slst.

Your completed star

Tie off, weave in the rail from your magic circle, but the finishing tail should be left long (around 10 inches) so you can use it to sew your star onto your ray.

Position your star at the wide end of your ray, and sew a long the edges, making sure you split the stitches in your ray to properly secure it. Make sure you place a stitch at the end of the points to secure the tips in place.

Nice secure, tie off and weave in your tail.

The Border

Change to a 4mm hook for the border. Join Colour E (your joining colour) into the side of any stitch. Make 2 slst into the side of every dc.

When you get to the tip of the ray, make 2 slst into 1 side, but when you turn only make 1 slst into the other side of the stitch. Continue to make 2 slst into the side of all other stitches.

You don’t need to add any extra stitches for the corners.

You should have 78 slst down one long side and 77 down the other, and 20 slst across the bottom.

Weave in your ends, and join the piece to week 18
