Week 44 Of The Ray Of Hope Crochet Along

Week 44 Of The Ray Of Hope Crochet Along

We’re using the Moroccan stitch to create a beautiful jewelled look

The free pattern is below, but if you’d like the ad free printable version, it is available either as part of my Lifetime Pattern Pass, or you can purchase it on its own for £5 from Ravelry

If you would like to follow my colour scheme, you can find the list of colours in both Scheepjes Softfun and Stylecraft Special DK in this document here

The pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation is below in brackets along with the abbreviations we will be using

  • Single crochet (double crochet) = sc
  • Double crochet (treble crochet) = dc

I’ve used what’s left of the colours from the outer pieces to make my bobbles, and have chosen to use 2 colours per bobble round. For each round I join my yarn in a different place, so that there is no one place where each bobble round starts and ends.

The Pattern

Round 1. Once you have joined all the pieces together, join into any slip stitch on the outside edge, in the back loop only with Colour E. Sc in each stitch round.

When you get to a join between rays, slst the last stitch and the first stitch of each piece together, then also make a sc into the first stitch. This will make the 2 pieces closely joined together.

You should have 14sc in the top of each rectangle piece and 20sc in the top of each triangle ray. Slst into the first sc – 680 stitches

Slst your pieces together

Round 2. Chain 1 and make the alternate turning chain in the first stitch. Dc in the next 66 stitches (the slst between each piece doesn’t count as a stitch) *make 2dc in the next stitch – Mark the 2nd dc with a stitch marker. Dc in the next 67 stitches* repeat between *and* until you have 1 stitch left. Make 2dc then slst into the alternate turning chain – 690 stitches

At the end of round 2, you need your stitch count to be a multiple of 3

Round 3. Chain 1, make the alternate turning chain in the same stitch you finished round 2. Chain 1 and dc in the same stitch to make a V stitch *skip 2 stitches and in the next stitch make (dc, chain 1, dc) all in the same stitch* repeat between *and* all the way round. When you reach the stitch markers chain 2 instead of 1 in the v stitch next to the marker – move your stitch marker into the chain space in the v stitch. Don’t cut off, you will be picking this colour up again in later rounds

V stitches

Round 4. Join Colour A in the chain 1 space of any V stitch. Chain 2, make a puff stitch (yarn over and pull up a loop x3. Yarn over and pull through 6 loops, yarn over pull through 2 loops) chain 2 *In the next chain 1 space make a puff stitch, chain 2* repeat between *and* slst into the top of the first puff stitch of the round.

When you reach the stitch markers, make 2 puff stitches in the same chain space. This serves as your increase.

Roughly half way around switch to Colour C

Making your puff stitches

Round 5. Pick up your loop from round 3. Chain 1 and make the alternate turning chain in the same stitch. Chain 1 and dc in the same stitch * working around the middle of the next 2 V stitches (not the chain space) make (dc chain 1 dc)* repeat between *and* slst into the top of the first stitch of the round. Don’t cut off
