Welcome to week 22 of the FrankenScrap crochet along, the ugliest and scrappiest crochet pattern that you ever did see!
Over the next 49 weeks, we are going to be making 53 different crochet stitches, each in a different piece of this patchwork blanket. The FrankenScrap was designed as a scrap project, so dive into your yarn stash and clear out those odds and ends that you’ve just not been sure what to do with.

The FrankenScrap is a completely free crochet along. Each week the next piece of the pattern will be published on my blog, but if you want the concise and add free pdf delivered to you each week that will remain in your Ravelry library, you can purchase that for just £5 here. This is a one off payment that covers the entirety of this CAL.
If you want to prep ahead, you can find out how much yarn you need for each week here as well as the layout and where each piece will fit.
Week 22 Of The FrankenScrap Crochet Along
This week in the FrankenScrap crochet along we are making 2 pieces – The Wedge and the Suzette pieces. For the Wedge piece you will need a total of 18 meters of DK / Light Worsted yarn. I used King Cole Giza Cotton DK for this piece, a 100% cotton yarn that is unfortunately discontinued in DK weight, and is now only available in 4 ply / fingering weight. It is a lovely silky mercerised yarn that is great for amigurumi and fine wearables – especially ones that you need good stitch definition to make the details pop. It is a hard wearing yarn that is easy to work with and just slides over your hook. It is a lovely yarn and one that I would happily work with again.
For the Suzette piece you will need 34 meters of DK / Light Worsted yarn. I used Mayflower DK Cotton, which is a multicolour yarn and 100% non mercerised cotton which means its soft but more prone to splitting than mercerised cotton.
I also used a 4 mm hook – I recommend using Clover Amour hooks. A cost effective hook that is comfortable in your hands thanks to their ergonomic design, so doesn’t make your hands tired when crocheting for long periods of time. I love my Clover hooks and although I own several different hook brands, I inevitably end up going back and using my trusty Clovers.
The Wedge stitch is a lacey stitch that creates a very open fabric. This stitch would suit for crochet shawls or beach coverups.
The Suzette stitch is a hole free stitch that creates the look of interlocking wedges. This stitch is ideally used with at least 2 different colours of yarn to really make the pattern stand out.

Joining Your Pieces
Your finished wedge piece should be 46 stitches wide and 22 rows high, which counts as 22 stitches high for joining purposes since you only have sc rows. If you are following my gauge, then your piece will measure 28.5cm wide and 6.5cm high.
Your finished Suzette piece should be 46 stitches wide and 9 rows high, which counts as 13 stitches high for joining purposes since you have dc rows and sc rows. You can see how the pieces are joined together here. If you are following my gauge, then your piece will measure 28.5cm wide and 11.5cm high. Remember this is just a size indication and if your gauge is consistent throughout, then your pieces will fit together nicely even if your sizes do not match with mine.
The Wedge piece should be joined directly below weeks 20 and 21 pieces, and will match them both combined in length. The Suzette piece will be joined directly below the Wedge piece and makes the bottom right hand corner of your FrankenScrap blanket.
The layout below shows how your pieces should be attached in relation to each other.
Click here to see how to join your pieces with the single crochet join. They should line up stitch for stitch using the counts stated above.
Once you have joined this weeks Wedge and Suzette stitch pieces to the previous pieces, that is it for week 22 of the FrankenScrap crochet along, I’ll be back next Friday for week 23 and the next piece of your CAL at 8pm UK time.
