Welcome to week 27 of the FrankenScrap crochet along, the ugliest and scrappiest crochet pattern that you ever did see!
Over the next 49 weeks, we are going to be making 53 different crochet stitches, each in a different piece of this patchwork blanket. The FrankenScrap was designed as a scrap project, so dive into your yarn stash and clear out those odds and ends that you’ve just not been sure what to do with.

The FrankenScrap is a completely free crochet along. Each week the next piece of the pattern will be published on my blog, but if you want the concise and add free pdf delivered to you each week that will remain in your Ravelry library, you can purchase that for just £5 here. This is a one off payment that covers the entirety of this CAL.
If you want to prep ahead, you can find out how much yarn you need for each week here as well as the layout and where each piece will fit.
Week 27 Of The FrankenScrap Crochet Along
Our next piece of the FrankenScrap crochet along is made with the Cluster Linen stitch. For this piece you will need a total of 17 meters of DK / Light Worsted yarn. For this piece I used 3 Bears 100% cotton yarn. Unfortunately this brand in no longer in business, but I had a few balls of their lovely rustic feeling cotton in my stash and this piece was a great use for one of them.
I also used a 4 mm hook – I recommend using Clover Amour hooks. A cost effective hook that is comfortable in your hands thanks to their ergonomic design, so doesn’t make your hands tired when crocheting for long periods of time. I love my Clover hooks and although I own several different hook brands, I inevitably end up going back and using my trusty Clovers.
The Cluster Linen stitch is also called the Cluster Moss stitch (and you will hear me use both names in the video, I kept forgetting which one I was using), and is a variation of the Moss stitch which is also known as the Linen stitch.
The Cluster Linen stitch is a single crochet based stitch that is quite dense when worked up but also slow to make. I would definitely recommend using this stitch with chunky yarn if you wanted to crochet anything sizable with it.

You will need a total of 17 meters of yarn for this piece if you are sticking to my gauge of 16sc in 10cm, 19 rows in 10cm
Abbreviations
- Ch = Chain
- Sk = Skip
- St = Stitch
- Sc = Single Crochet
- CL = Cluster Linen Stitch
Start by making a foundation chain of 63 with a 4mm hook, or whichever hook you used for week 2’s single crochet piece.
Row 1. In the 4th ch from your hook make 2 sc (your turning ch counts as your first st of the row).
*sk the next ch, make 2sc in the next ch* repeat between *and* until you have 1ch left. Make a sc in the last ch of the row – 62 st
I recommend keeping your tension nice and loose as you will be working into the middle of the stitches after this row
Row 2. Turn and ch2 (mark this chain). Make a sc in the first st. *sk the next st.
Make a cluster linen stitch (CL) in the next st (insert your hook into the v of the first sc of the pair in the row below and make a sc, then make another sc in the same stitch)* repeat between *and* Finish the row with a sc in the last st.
Row 3. Turn and ch2 (mark this ch). Make a sc in the first st. *Sk the next st and make a CL in the next st* repeat between *and* until you have 2 st left. Sk the next st and make 2sc in the last st of the row, which will be the turning chain you marked.
Rows 4 – 7. Repeat row 3
Joining Your Pieces
Your finished piece should be 62 stitches wide and 7 rows high, which counts as 7 stitches high for joining purposes since you have all sc rows. You can see how the pieces are joined together here. If you are following my gauge, then your piece will measure 38.5cm wide and 3.5cm high. Remember this is just a size indication and if your gauge is consistent throughout, then your pieces will fit together nicely even if your sizes do not match with mine.
The Cluster Linen piece should be joined beneath week 23’s Thistle stitch and to the bottom right hand 32 stitches of week 26’s Little Waves stitch piece. The right hand edge will be joined to the top 7 stitches of week 22’s Wedge piece.
The layout below shows how your pieces should be attached in relation to each other.
Click here to see how to join your pieces with the single crochet join. They should line up stitch for stitch using the counts stated above.
Once you have joined this weeks Cluster Linen stitch piece to the previous pieces, that is it for week 27 of the FrankenScrap crochet along, I’ll be back next Friday for week 28 and the next piece of your CAL at 8pm UK time.
