Week 29 Of The FrankenScrap Crochet Along

Week 29 Of The FrankenScrap Crochet Along

Welcome to week 29 of the FrankenScrap crochet along, the ugliest and scrappiest crochet pattern that you ever did see!

Over the next 49 weeks, we are going to be making 53 different crochet stitches, each in a different piece of this patchwork blanket. The FrankenScrap was designed as a scrap project, so dive into your yarn stash and clear out those odds and ends that you’ve just not been sure what to do with.

The FrankenScrap is a completely free crochet along. Each week the next piece of the pattern will be published on my blog, but if you want the concise and add free pdf delivered to you each week that will remain in your Ravelry library, you can purchase that for just £5 here. This is a one off payment that covers the entirety of this CAL.

If you want to prep ahead, you can find out how much yarn you need for each week here as well as the layout and where each piece will fit.

Week 29 Of The FrankenScrap Crochet Along

Our next piece of the FrankenScrap crochet along is made with the Corner To Corner Moss stitch. For this piece you will need a total of 90 meters of DK / Light Worsted yarn. I used Lana Grossa Cotone 325 for this piece, a 100% mercerised cotton yarn that is multicoloured. It comes in a large range of colourways, although the Cotone range isn’t easy to get hold of as only limited outlets seem to carry it.

I also used a 4 mm hook – I recommend using Clover Amour hooks. A cost effective hook that is comfortable in your hands thanks to their ergonomic design, so doesn’t make your hands tired when crocheting for long periods of time. I love my Clover hooks and although I own several different hook brands, I inevitably end up going back and using my trusty Clovers.

The C2C Moss stitch is made in the same way as the regular Moss stitch except that it is made on the diagonal. It is a single crochet based stitch, but as long as you keep your tension loose when making your chains, it doesn’t tend to work up too tight unlike other single crochet based stitches.

The C2C Moss stitch would be a great stitch for many projects including blankets, scarves and wearables. For any sizable projects I would recommend a chunky yarn as this stitch gains size slowly.

Joining Your Pieces

Your finished piece should be 36 stitches wide and 36 rows high, which counts as 36 stitches high for joining purposes since you have all sc rows. You can see how the pieces are joined together here. If you are following my gauge, then your piece will measure 22.5cm wide and 22.5cm high. Remember this is just a size indication and if your gauge is consistent throughout, then your pieces will fit together nicely even if your sizes do not match with mine.

The C2C Moss piece should be joined on the left hand side of both week 27’s Cluster Linen piece and week 28’s Bar stitch piece. You will also be joining the top edge to the remaining stitches of the bottom of week 26’s Little Waves piece.

The layout below shows how your pieces should be attached in relation to each other.

Click here to see how to join your pieces with the single crochet join. They should line up stitch for stitch using the counts stated above.

Once you have joined this weeks C2C Moss stitch piece to the previous pieces, that is it for week 29 of the FrankenScrap crochet along, I’ll be back next Friday for week 30 and the next piece of your CAL at 8pm UK time.
