The pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation is below in brackets along with the abbreviations we will be using
- Single crochet (double crochet) = sc
- Double crochet (treble crochet) = dc
- Treble crochet (double treble crochet) = tr
The Pattern
You will need a 4mm hook for this piece
With Colour O make a chain of 80
Row 1. In the 3rd chain from your hook make a sc (your turning chain counts as a sc). Sc in each stitch across – 79 stitches
Row 2. Turn, make the tr alternate turning chain. In the 2nd and 3rd stitch make a tr. Make 3 tr all in the next stitch.
*Ch1, skip 5 stitches then make a sc and ch1. Skip the next 5 stitches. In the next stitch make (3tr, ch3, 3tr) all in the same stitch*
Repeat between *and* until you have 9 stitches left. Skip the next 5 stitches then make 3 tr in the next stitch and 1 tr in each of the last 3 stitches.
Row 3. Turn, Ch 1, sc in each of the 1st 3 stitches. *Ch 5, then make a fptr6tog over the next 6 tr – you will be working around the last 3 treble’s of one she’ll, and the first 3 treble’s of the next shell
Ch5 and sc in the ch3 space* repeat between *and* sc in the last 3 stitches
Row 4. Turn, ch1 and sc in the 1st 3 stitches. *Ch1 and in the top of the fptr6tog make (3tr, ch3, 3tr) all in the same space.
Ch 1 and sc in the sc of row 3* repeat between *and* sc in last 3 stitches
Row 5. Turn, make the tr alternate turning chain. Tr in the next 2 stitches. In the next stitch make a fptr3tog around the 3tr in the row below.
*ch 5, sc in ch3 space ch5, fp6tog around the next 6 tr* repeat between *and* fptr3tog around last 3 tr, tr in last 3 stitches
Row 6. Turn, make the tr alternate turning chain. In the next 2 stitches make a tr. Make 3 tr in the top of the fptr3togstitch.
*Ch1, skip the chain 5 then sc and ch1 in the top of the sc. Skip the chain 5. In the top of the fptr6tog make (3tr, ch3, 3tr) all in the same space* repeat between *and* until you have 9 stitches left.
Skip the chain 5 then make 3 tr in the top of the fptr3tog and 1 tr in the last 3 stitches.
Row 7. Repeat row 3
Row 8. Sc in each stitch across, including into the top of the fptrtog stitches and make 5 sc in each chain 5 space – 79 stitches
The Border
With a 4mm hook, join with Colour E (your joining colour) and make a slst into the side of each sc row, 2 slst into the side of every dc row and 3 slst into the side of every tr row. Along the long side, make 1 slst in every sc.
You will have 14 slst across the short ends and 79 slst across each long side.
Weave in your ends, and join the piece to week 29
