Welcome to week 31 of the FrankenScrap crochet along, the ugliest and scrappiest crochet pattern that you ever did see!
Over the next 49 weeks, we are going to be making 53 different crochet stitches, each in a different piece of this patchwork blanket. The FrankenScrap was designed as a scrap project, so dive into your yarn stash and clear out those odds and ends that you’ve just not been sure what to do with.

The FrankenScrap is a completely free crochet along. Each week the next piece of the pattern will be published on my blog, but if you want the concise and add free pdf delivered to you each week that will remain in your Ravelry library, you can purchase that for just £5 here. This is a one off payment that covers the entirety of this CAL.
If you want to prep ahead, you can find out how much yarn you need for each week here as well as the layout and where each piece will fit.
Week 31 Of The FrankenScrap Crochet Along
Our next piece of the FrankenScrap crochet along is made with the Jagged stitch. For this piece you will need a total of 65 meters of DK / Light Worsted yarn. I used Rico Cotton Essentials DK in shade 89. This is one of my go too yarns, and I have several balls of it in my stash. It’s 100% cotton and is lovely and silky and soft to the touch. It is a really nice cotton to work with and doesn’t split overly much.
I also used a 4 mm hook – I recommend using Clover Amour hooks. A cost effective hook that is comfortable in your hands thanks to their ergonomic design, so doesn’t make your hands tired when crocheting for long periods of time. I love my Clover hooks and although I own several different hook brands, I inevitably end up going back and using my trusty Clovers.
The Jagged stitch is an unusual stitch that has post stitches that end up with a kink in them so they look a little wonky. I would call this an intermediate level stitch as it does take some concentration to keep on track with the stitch order. But it is a lovely textured stitch that would give any crochet project a distinctive look.

Abbreviations
- Ch = Chain
- Sk = Skip
- St = Stitch
- YO = Yarn Over
- Dc = Double Crochet
- JS = Jagged Stitch
- FL = Front Loop
Start by making a foundation chain of 54 with a 4mm hook.
Row 1. Make a dc in the 4th ch from your hook (your turning ch counts as your first st of the row). Make a dc in each stitch across – 52 st
Row 2. Turn and ch1. Make a dc turning ch in the 1st st and then make a Jagged stitch (JS) – yo, around the post of the next stitch and start making a dc but only pull your hook through the first 2 loops. Now insert your hook into the loops of the next stitch (3 loops on your hook).
YO and pull through 2 loops, yo pull through the last 2 loops and then ch1. Your JS is worked across 2 stitches.
Make a JS all the way across the row. Finish the row with a dc in the last st – 52 st (25 Jagged Stitches)
Row 3. Turn and ch1. Make a dc turning chain in the first st. *In the ch sp, use the FL of the chain only and make a dc. Make a dc in both loops of the next st*
Repeat between *and* make a dc in the last st of the row.
Rows 4 – 16. Repeat rows 2 and 3
Joining Your Pieces
Your finished piece should be 52 stitches wide and 16 rows high, which counts as 32 stitches high for joining purposes since you have all dc rows. You can see how the pieces are joined together here. If you are following my gauge, then your piece will measure 32.5cm wide and 17cm high. Remember this is just a size indication and if your gauge is consistent throughout, then your pieces will fit together nicely even if your sizes do not match with mine.
The Jagged piece should be joined to the left hand side of week 14’s Drunken Granny piece and the top left 4 stitches of week 13’s Forked Cluster stitch.
The layout below shows how your pieces should be attached in relation to each other.
Click here to see how to join your pieces with the single crochet join. They should line up stitch for stitch using the counts stated above.
Once you have joined this weeks Jagged stitch piece to the previous pieces, that is it for week 31 of the FrankenScrap crochet along, I’ll be back next Friday for week 32 and the next piece of your CAL at 8pm UK time.
