Week 47 Of The FrankenScrap Crochet Along

Welcome to week 47 of the FrankenScrap crochet along, the ugliest and scrappiest crochet pattern that you ever did see!

Over the next 49 weeks, we are going to be making 53 different crochet stitches, each in a different piece of this patchwork blanket. The FrankenScrap was designed as a scrap project, so dive into your yarn stash and clear out those odds and ends that you’ve just not been sure what to do with.

The FrankenScrap is a completely free crochet along. Each week the next piece of the pattern will be published on my blog, but if you want the concise and add free pdf delivered to you each week that will remain in your Ravelry library, you can purchase that for just £5 here. This is a one off payment that covers the entirety of this CAL.

If you want to prep ahead, you can find out how much yarn you need for each week here as well as the layout and where each piece will fit.

Week 47 Of The FrankenScrap Crochet Along

Our next piece of the FrankenScrap crochet along features 2 pieces – the Primrose stitch piece and the Hdc Herringbone piece. For the Primrose piece you will need a total of 37 meters of DK / Light Worsted yarn. I used Patons Cotton DK a 100% mercerised cotton that is smooth and silky and glides over your hook.

For the Hdc Herringbone piece you will need 10 meters of DK / Light Worsted yarn. I used Rico Essentials Cotton DK for this piece, a 100% cotton yarn that keeps appearing in my stash. I like this brand of yarn a lot as it’s lovely and silky, has a great colour range to choose from and is a good price compared to other brands of cotton.

I also used a 4 mm hook – I recommend using Clover Amour hooks. A cost effective hook that is comfortable in your hands thanks to their ergonomic design, so doesn’t make your hands tired when crocheting for long periods of time. I love my Clover hooks and although I own several different hook brands, I inevitably end up going back and using my trusty Clovers.

The Primrose stitch is a pretty shell like stitch that has a floral like look to it. It is a fairly solid fabric but it does have some gaps, making it a good stitch to use for spring items like tops or wraps.

The Hdc Herringbone stitch is a slanting stitch that when worked in rows looks like the backbone of a fish due to the way 2 rows come together. It is a hole free stitch that has a flat surface. It is ideal for making clothing, wraps, scarves and so much more.

Joining Your Pieces

Your finished Primrose piece should be 37 stitches wide and 14 rows high, which counts as 20 stitches high for joining purposes since you have hdc rows and dc rows. You can see how the pieces are joined together here. If you are following my gauge, then your piece will measure 23cm wide and 10.5cm high.

Your Hdc Herringbone stitch should be 10 stitches wide and 12 rows hight, which counts as 20 stitches high for joining purposes since you have hdc rows. If you are following my gauge, then your piece will measure 6cm wide and 10.5cm high.

Remember this is just a size indication and if your gauge is consistent throughout, then your pieces will fit together nicely even if your sizes do not match with mine.

The Primrose piece should be joined to the left of the Hdc Herringbone piece. Then both pieces fit in the space below week 45’s Turtle stitch piece, and will join to the remaining stitches of week 46’s Cluster stitch piece. You will also be joining the right hand side of the Hdc Herringbone piece to the top 20 stitches of week 30’s Mayberry stitch piece.

The layout below shows how your pieces should be attached in relation to each other.

Click here to see how to join your pieces with the single crochet join. They should line up stitch for stitch using the counts stated above.

Once you have joined this weeks Cluster stitch piece to the previous pieces, that is it for week 47 of the FrankenScrap crochet along, I’ll be back next Friday for week 48 and the next piece of your CAL at 8pm UK time.
