Week Fifteen Of The Country Garden Crochet Along

Week 16 Of The Country Garden Crochet Along

It’s week 15 of the Country Garden crochet along. This week we’re making the Leaf Puff stitch, also known as the Sycamore stitch. We will be making this stitch on top of last week’s Filet grid. Its really important that you watch how tight you are crocheting this week, as having your tension too tight will bunch up your blanket. Check if your blanket is lying flat after every round, and if it isn’t you will need to frog and go up a hook size.

If you would like the ad free printable version, it is available either as part of my Lifetime Pattern Pass, or you can purchase it on its own for just £5 from Ravelry

This pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation are:

  • ch (Chain)
  • sc (single crochet) = Double crochet
  • dc (double crochet) = treble crochet

If you would like to follow my colour scheme in either Paintbox Cotton Aran or Caron Simply Soft, you can find my colours here

Carrying on from where we ended last week

Round 4. With Colour N, join into the stitch after the corner stitches

If you chain tightly, go up to a 5.5mm hook for this round – you need to make sure that your stitches are loose enough for your work to lie flat.

Make a dc starting chain in the same stitch you joined into. Make a dc in the next 3 stitches.

Next we are going to make a leaf puff stitch. We will be working into each of the numbered spaces in the picture below.

The order to work in each space

*Dc in space 1. ch 3. In the same chain space as the last dc (Space 1). YO and pull up a loop 3 times, so you have 7 loops on your hook. Insert your hook into Space 2 and Yo and pull up a loop 3 times, so you have 13 loops on your hook.

Insert your hook into Space 3 and YO and pull up a loop x3. Insert your hook into Space 4 and YO and pull up a loop x3. Insert your hook into Space 5 and YO and pull up a loop x3.

You will have 5 sets of loops on your hook

YO and pull your hook through all loops, then ch3.

Your completed leaf puff stitches

Make a dc in Space 5 then make a dc in the next st*

Repeat between *and*

Once you’ve made your last leaf puff of that side, make a dc into the last chain space. Make a dc in each stitch until you reach the 2nd corner stitch, and then make 2 dc on the same stitch.

Repeat this round each side

Once you get back to the beginning, make your final dc into the same stitch as your starting chain then slst into the starting chain.

MAKE SURE YOUR BLANKET IS LYING FLAT AFTER THIS ROUND. IF IT IS TIGHT YOU NEED TO GO UP A HOOK SIZE

Round 5. Chain 1, and sc into the same stitch you slst into. Make a sc in each stitch round. When you reach the chain space, make 3sc. Make 1 sc in the chain 1 after making your leaf puff stitch. Make 2sc in the 2nd chain space.

When you reach the corner make 2sc in the 2nd corner stitch.

When you get back to the beginning, slst into the 1st sc. You can now cut off your yarn and weave in your ends – 324 stitches
