Welcome to week 16 of the Study Of Corners crochet along! Let’s get started on bordering last weeks square and joining it to the row below.
Keep reading for our week 16 pattern but if you haven’t heard much about this crochet along before, then check out this blog post here which will tell you what to expect.

For week 16 we’re joining our C2C Lemon Peel squares to both the C2C Mini V square and to the row below. By the end of this week you’re blanket will look like the picture below.

For this square you’ll need a 5mm hook – this is the hook size I used for the whole pattern. I used Caron Simply Soft in the shade Off White. But you can use any aran or worsted weight yarn of your choice.
If you’d rather skip the ads and get an expansion pack alongside each week’s square, you can grab this pattern on Ravelry for £5 here. It’s released on the same weekly schedule as here, just with the extras and none of the clutter.
(And if you’re the type who collects every pattern I release – this one included – my Pattern Pass gets you the lot, including everything I publish in future, for a one-off £49.99.)

We are going to be bordering each piece with a C2C border, which we will also use to join the pieces too.
It’s very important that you take note of the direction your starting C2C block lies for each piece. If it’s wrong, your blocks will not line up with the ones from the previous pieces.
We’re joining your Lemon Peel square to the rest of your blanket, but we’re also finishing the second row of our blankets, so we need to add the border down the other side of the square too.
We’re using the same join as we used in week 12, so I won’t repeat those instructions here. If you need a reminder, you can find week 12’s pattern instructions here.
What is different this week is that we’re also adding the border to the other side of the Lemon Peel square to finish the 2nd row of our blankets, and those instructions are below.

(The pictures below are upside down – it was the easiest way to make these stitches)
We’re going to join the same way as we did for the Double Crochet square. Join your yarn into the backside, top right corner of the C2C Mini V square. Your first block needs your C2C square to have it’s stitches going from side to side

To join into the side of your Lemon Peel stitch, every row counts as 1 stitch. So you join a C2C block every 2 rows.

Work all the way down both sides of the C2C Mini V square and the C2C Lemon Peel square until you have 18 C2C blocks down the side of the Mini V square. Then you will keep going with your C2C rows and finishing adding the border to the top of your Moss square in row 1.

The Moss square is like the Lemon Peel square in that every row counts as 1 stitch, so you will be joining a C2C block every 2 rows.
Once you start working the bottom of the Lemon Peel square you will start to join into the top of the Raised Pineapple square. This is much easier to tell where your stitches go as it is a C2C block based stitch, so you will be joining your C2C blocks between each block on the Raised Pineapple square.

Keep working across the bottom of the Lemon Peel square until you get to the other corner and have 18 C2C blocks.

At this point you can cut off your yarn and then you need to rejoin at the top right hand corner of your Lemon Peel square to add the border to the other side.

When you join your first block needs to be made in the opposite way to the other side. So this time your C2C block needs it’s stitches going up/down.

Now you keep working down the side of the square, but once you have 5 rows of C2C, the right hande side needs to be made straight down. You do this by decreasing your C2C row and starting the next row by slip stitching into each of the 3 dc of the block you just made, then slip stitch into the turning chain before starting your next block.

Keep working down the side of your Lemon Peel square until you have 18 C2C blocks. Then it’s time to finish working across the top of the Pineapple square until that has 18 C2C blocks across the top.
This then leaves the last few rows of C2C to complete to finish of the joining of rows 1 and 2. Your final block will be made into the side of the blanket.

Once that final block is made you can cut off and weave in your ends.
