Week 8 Of The Ray Of Hope Crochet Along

Week 8 Of The Ray Of Hope Crochet Along

I’ve used 2 colours for this piece, and since it’s a completely symmetrical stitch we can carry the colours by only turning every 3 rows and returning to the beginning of the row to pick up the previous colour. To see how this is done, watch the pattern video below.

The free pattern is below, but if you’d like the ad free printable version, it is available either as part of my Lifetime Pattern Pass, or you can purchase it on its own for £5 from Ravelry

If you would like to follow my colour scheme, you can find the list of colours in both Scheepjes Softfun and Stylecraft Special DK in this document here

The pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation is below in brackets along with the abbreviations we will be using

  • Chain = ch
  • Single crochet (double crochet) = sc
  • Double crochet (treble crochet) = dc

The Pattern

For this piece we are using a 3.5mm hook

Using Colour I make a chain of 15

Row 1. Sc in the 3rd ch from your hook (your turning chain counts as your first sc). Sc in each stitch across, changing to Colour F in the last stitch of the row – 14 stitches

Row 2. Turn, chain 1, make the alternate turn chain in the first stitch, *skip a stitch then in the next stitch make 2dc in the same stitch*

Your first 2 rows

Repeat between *and* make a dc in the last stitch (there is no skipped stitch after the last set of 2 dc), changing back to Colour I in the last 2 loops of the last stitch – 6 V stitches / 14 stitches

Row 3. Turn, chain 1. Make the alternate turning chain in the first stitch, *Make 2 dc between the dc posts directly below in the previous row* Repeat between *and* then dc in last stitch, changing colour back to Colour F in the last 2 loops – 14 stitches

Make 2 dc in the same space

Rows 4-40. Repeat row 3

Row 41. Turn, ch1 and make a sc in the first stitch. Sc in the top of each dc and sc in last stitch – 14 stitches

Your final row

The Border

Using a 4mm hook, join with Colour E (your joining colour) and make a slst into each stitch on the short end.

On the long side, make 1 slst into the side of each sc, and 2 slst into the side of each dc

You should have 14 slst along the short end, and 80 slst on the long side

Weave in your ends, and join the piece to week 7
