For week 8 we’re making the C2C Raised Pineapple stitch. This stitch is based on the traditional C2C stitch and one that I developed myself for this crochet along. This stitch is a real yarn eater, but looks amazing and is so thick and warm.

I chose this stitch to go into the corner as it is quite heavy and will keep the corners pulled down once draped over a bed.

C2C Raised Pineapple Stitch

It can feel like this square comes out quite large, but I would make sure that your puffs haven’t stretched out before worrying about the size. Once connected to the rest of your blanket, those Pineapple stitches will bunch up together and as they should.

For this square you’ll need a 5mm hook – this is the hook size I used for the whole pattern. I used Caron Simply Soft in the shade Plum Wine. But you can use any aran or worsted weight yarn of your choice.

I used 240m / 263yds of yarn with my gauge of 5 rows of dc and 15 stitches in 10cm.

If you’d rather skip the ads and get an expansion pack alongside each week’s square, you can grab this pattern on Ravelry for £5 here. It’s released on the same weekly schedule as here, just with the extras and none of the clutter.

(And if you’re the type who collects every pattern I release – this one included – my Pattern Pass gets you the lot, including everything I publish in future, for a one-off £49.99.)

Abbreviations
All abbreviations are in US terms

  • Ch = chain
  • St = stitch
  • Slst = Slip Stitch
  • Chsp = Chain Space
  • YO = Yarn Over
  • Dc = double crochet

A note about turning chains: in the pattern instructions I state to make a dc turning chain. I use a stacked or alternate turning chain, but you could also make a ch2 as your turning chain. The choice is yours about what type of turning chain you would like to use. I have a video here which shows you the different type of turning chains you can use.

You can follow the written instructions below, or follow along with the videos.

For your yarn you will need 240 metres / 263 yards of Colour C – you can find all the yarn information for the CAL here.

Start by making a foundation chain of 6.

Row 1. In the 4th ch from your hook make a dc. Make a dc in each of the next 2 ch – 1 C2C Block.

Row 2. Turn and ch6. In the 4th ch from your hook make a dc. Make a dc in each of the next 2 ch. Slst into the chsp of the block in the previous row and ch3. Make 3dc into the chsp – 2 C2C Blocks.

Row 3. Turn and ch6. In the 4th ch from your hook make a dc. Make a dc in each of the next 2 ch. Slst into the chsp of the block in the previous row and then ch3.

Now we make a Raised Pineapple – *YO and pull up a loop. YO and pull through 2 loops only*

Starting your C2C Raised Pineapple Stitch

Repeat between *and* 5 more times. You should end up with 7 loops on your hook.

To complete the last block of the row, Slst into the chsp of the block in the previous row and ch3. Make 3dc into the chsp – Each row will have 2 C2C Blocks and you will add 1 more Raised Pineapple block per row.
